# Diagnostics (Host)

> Set how much the Traycer CLI and host log, and read a host's recent log output.

Host **Diagnostics** shows log verbosity and recent log output for a host. The page is in the Host group of Settings, so it applies to the host selected in the [host picker](/settings#host-picker), remote hosts included.

The app's own log level, recent app logs and memory tools are under Application › [Diagnostics](/settings/diagnostics).

## Log Detail

| Row | What it sets |
| - | - |
| **CLI log level** | How much the Traycer CLI logs. |
| **Host log level** | How much the background host process logs. |

Each level can be **Trace**, **Debug**, **Info** (the default), **Warn**, or **Error**. Both levels apply machine-wide, to every Traycer host environment on that machine.

While either level differs from Info, the group shows a reminder with **Reset all to Info**.

<Tip>
  When you're capturing a problem for support, raise the level to **Debug**, reproduce the problem, copy the logs, then set the level back to **Info**.
</Tip>

## Recent Logs

**Recent logs** lists the host's own log files: **Host Log**, and **CLI Log** when that machine has one. Expand a log to see its last 100 lines.

| Control | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Copy** | Copies the lines shown. Appears while the log is expanded. |
| **Copy path** | Copies the log file's full path on the host. |

For the standard install, the host log is `~/.traycer/host/host.log` and the CLI log is `~/.traycer/cli/cli.log`.

## When The Host Can't Answer

* If the selected host is the one on this computer and it isn't running, or runs a version that predates remote configuration, the page reads the log levels and log files from this computer directly, and a note says so.
* If a remote host runs an older version, the page says its logs and log levels can't be read from here. Update that host and the page fills in.

For what to do next with the logs, see [Troubleshooting](/reference/troubleshooting).
