# Settings overview

> Open Settings as a dialog or a tab, search it, and find every section in the Guide, Application, Account and Host groups, including how the host picker scopes the Host group.

Settings is where you change how Traycer behaves: for this app, for your account, and for each machine that runs a host. This page explains how Settings is organized and links to a page for every section.

## Open Settings

Press <kbd>Cmd</kbd> + <kbd>,</kbd> / <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>,</kbd>, choose **Settings...** from the app menu, or run **Open settings** from the command palette.

* **As a dialog.** Settings opens over the app. Press <kbd>Esc</kbd> or click the close button to return to your work.
* **As a tab.** Click the arrow button in the dialog's title bar (**Open Settings as a tab**) to move Settings into a tab in the header strip, where it stays open beside your Tasks. Close it like any other tab.
* **In a narrow window.** When the window is narrower than 768 px, Settings opens as a full page instead: a list of sections first, then the section you tap, with a back button to return to the list.

## Search Settings

The **Search settings** box sits at the top of the Settings sidebar.

* While you type, the results replace the section list. Each result names the section it belongs to.
* Pick a result to open its section. Settings scrolls to the matching row and highlights it.
* Use the arrow keys to move through the results.
* The first <kbd>Esc</kbd> clears the search. The next one closes Settings.

## Groups And Sections

The sidebar has four groups. The group tells you whose setting it is:

| Group | Whose settings | Applies to |
| - | - | - |
| **Guide** | Your setup checklist. | This app. |
| **Application** | The app itself. | This app on this device, whichever host you are looking at. |
| **Account** | Your Traycer account. | Every device you sign in on. |
| **Host** | One machine running a Traycer host. | The host chosen in the [host picker](#host-picker). |

Every section, in sidebar order:

| Group | Section | What it covers |
| - | - | - |
| Guide | [Getting started](/settings/getting-started) | The initial tour and the setup guides. |
| Application | [General](/settings/general) | Composer behavior, sleep while agents run, the branch prefix, experimental features, and resetting local app state. |
| Application | [Appearance](/settings/appearance) | Themes, the start page, zoom, fonts, motion, the terminal, and icon colors. |
| Application | [Browser](/settings/browser) | The in-app browser: search engine, agent access, saved website sessions, and where browser tabs open. |
| Application | [Opening behavior](/settings/opening-behavior) | Where links and new tiles open. |
| Application | [Sounds](/settings/sounds) | The chime for each kind of notification, and OS and phone notifications. |
| Application | [Keybindings](/settings/keybindings) | Every keyboard shortcut, and how to rebind it. |
| Application | [Diagnostics](/settings/diagnostics) | The app's own log level, memory capture, and recent logs. |
| Application | [Layout](/settings/layout) | Presets, the status bar, tabs, the composer, chat, and the sidebar. |
| Account | [Sessions](/settings/account#sessions) | Where your account is signed in. |
| Account | [Link mobile app](/settings/account#link-mobile-app) | Signing the mobile app in to your account. |
| Account | [Usage](/settings/account#usage) | Token and cost usage across your agents. |
| Host | [Overview](/settings/host) | The host's status, updates, ports, data, and installation. |
| Host | [Providers](/settings/providers) | Coding agents, their accounts, models, and extensions. |
| Host | [Worktrees](/settings/worktrees) | Traycer-created worktrees on the host, and automatic cleanup. |
| Host | [Notifications](/settings/notifications) | Which events the host turns into notifications, and notification hooks. |
| Host | [Permissions](/settings/permissions) | The default permission mode, the Auto mode judge, rules, and recent decisions. |
| Host | [Agent selection](/settings/agents) | How Traycer picks a coding agent, model, and reasoning effort for child agents. |
| Host | [Model routing](/settings/model-routing) | What Traycer tries when a usage limit or another provider problem interrupts a chat. |
| Host | [Shell](/settings/shell) | The shell and environment the host uses for terminals and providers. |
| Host | [Diagnostics](/settings/host-diagnostics) | The host's and CLI's log levels, and the host's recent logs. |

There are two **Diagnostics** sections. The one under **Application** is about this app; the one under **Host** is about the selected host.

## Host Picker

One picker heads the **Host** group. It chooses which host every section below it shows and changes, so you can review or change settings on any of your hosts from one window.

* By default the picker shows the [active host](/concepts/hosts).
* Picking another host only changes what Settings shows. It never changes the window's active host. While you look at another host, a note under the picker reads "Viewing — the active host is …".
* **Add host…** at the end of the list adds a new host.
* **Permissions › Modes** is the one exception. The mode new conversations start in doesn't depend on the host you pick. The other Permissions tabs do.

Application and Account sections don't change with the picker.

## Section Numbers

While Settings is open, hold <kbd>Opt</kbd> / <kbd>Alt</kbd> and press a digit to jump to a section. Holding the key shows each section's number in the sidebar.

Only the first ten sidebar entries have a number:

| Key | Section |
| - | - |
| 1 | Getting started |
| 2 | General |
| 3 | Appearance |
| 4 | Browser |
| 5 | Opening behavior |
| 6 | Sounds |
| 7 | Keybindings |
| 8 | Diagnostics (Application) |
| 9 | Layout |
| 0 | Sessions |

**Link mobile app**, **Usage** and every Host section have no number. [Keybindings](/settings/keybindings) lists this shortcut as **Switch settings section by number**.

## In The Mobile App

Settings in the [mobile app](/account/mobile-app) has the same groups, with a few differences:

* There is no **Keybindings** or **Link mobile app** section.
* **Account** adds **Delete account**, which permanently deletes your Traycer account and its data.
* Rows that need the desktop app are hidden, such as **Voice input** and **Prevent sleep while running** in General and **Zoom** in Appearance.
* Settings opens as a full page: a list of sections, then the section you tap.
