# We're Retiring the IDE Extension

> Traycer is retiring the IDE extension on October 31, 2026, and focusing fully on Traycer Desktop. Your existing work and paid plan continue on Desktop.

<Info>
  **The Traycer IDE extension will be retired on October 31, 2026.** Your
  existing work continues in [Traycer Desktop](/install).
</Info>

Traycer started as an IDE extension. But an extension can only do what the editor around it allows, and those limits held us back from building the workspace we wanted: one place where your coding agents, terminals, files, git diff, and plans all live side by side.

So Traycer has evolved into a full desktop app. We're retiring the extension and shifting our focus fully to **Traycer Desktop**.

**Your existing work comes with you.** Sign in to Desktop with the same Traycer account, and the work you did in the extension continues there.

## Traycer Desktop in Short

Traycer Desktop is a workspace for working with coding agents. You organize work into **Tasks**. Inside a Task, you run agents through a Chat or Terminal interface, right next to the files, terminals, git diff, and artifacts (specs, tickets, stories, and reviews) that belong to that work.

**Free with the AI subscriptions you already have.** Connect your existing subscriptions, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, directly to Traycer Desktop and use it for free. Don't have one? You can use Traycer credits instead. See [Agents & Models](/agents-and-models/coding-agents) for the supported agents.

### How to Do What You Did in the Extension

**Epics, Phases, and Plans.** These now live in a [Task](/concepts/tasks-and-workspace-folders) that holds [artifacts](/panels/artifacts) such as specs, tickets, and reviews. See the [artifact workflow](/concepts/artifact-workflow).

**Planning.** Agents now create plan documents as artifacts inside your Task. For larger features, use the [planning skills](/concepts/artifact-workflow#built-in-skills), such as `traycer-epic-brief`, `traycer-tech-plan`, and `traycer-ticket-breakdown`. Pick a skill with `$` in the composer, or type `/` and the skill name.

**Phase breakdown.** You no longer need to break work into phases by hand. Traycer automatically splits the work into multiple steps, or launches multiple [sub-agents](/concepts/agent-to-agent) that work on different sub-tasks in parallel wherever needed. You can also ask it to create a phase-by-phase artifact directly, which agents always refer to as they work.

**Review.** Ask an agent to review your changes with the `traycer-review` skill, and inspect every change yourself in the [Git Diff](/panels/git-diff) panel.

And a few things the extension could never do:

## Moving to Desktop

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install Traycer Desktop">
    Download it for your operating system from the [Install](/install) page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with the same account">
    Use the Traycer account you used in the extension, so your existing work
    and plan come with you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up a coding agent">
    Connect Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, or another agent in [Agents &
    Models](/agents-and-models/coding-agents).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open your project and keep going">
    Choose your workspace folder, then open your earlier work from
    [History](/concepts/history) or start a new Task with the
    [Quickstart](/quickstart).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What Changes for Your Plan

**If you're on a free plan**, nothing to pay for. Traycer Desktop is free to use with your existing AI subscriptions, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, because you connect them directly. Otherwise, you can use Traycer credits.

**If you're on a paid plan**, it continues on Desktop, but it works differently. Instead of rate-limited artifacts, you receive **monthly inference credits** to run models through the Traycer provider.

As a thank-you to early users, your current plan includes **50% extra credits every month, forever**. For example, a \$20/month plan gives you **\$30 in inference credits each month**. These credits expire at the end of each month and do not roll over.

Using your own coding agents, such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or Cursor, does not consume Traycer credits. See [Pricing](/account/pricing) for how credits and plans work on Desktop.
